Westlake Physical Therapy Helps Rehabilitate Workers Compensation Injuries
For more than 30 years Dr. Michael Darr has helped accident injury and workers compensation patients overcome injuries and return to vibrant, pain-free living by guiding them through his Westlake physical therapy treatments. We understand that although two different patients may have suffered a similar injury, each person is unique and requires a personalized approach to recovery and rehabilitation. This is why we offer such a wide range of treatment options. Additionally, Dr. Darr spends several hours a week staying informed about the latest treatment research so that he can offer the most technologically-advanced care possible to our patients.
Physical Therapy Services in Westlake
Here at Advanced Spinal Rehab & Wellness Center in Westlake, our broad array of physical therapy treatments are designed to help relieve pain, accelerate healing and strengthen weak, injured tissues after a workers' compensation or accident injury. Corrective exercises are a mainstay during therapy for workers compensation injury cases because they are necessary for rehabilitating injured muscles, tendons and ligaments. In addition to injury-specific exercises and stretches to help patients regain full strength and range of motion, we employ a work hardening rehabilitation program that actually simulates work activities. We guide and strengthen our patients by training them in more ergonomic ways to lift, bend and work so that they lower the chances of re-injury in the future.
Mechanical traction is another modality we use to help relieve pressure and realign musculoskeletal tissues that are out of alignment due to an injury. Whether it is a spinal injury or an injury to the arms, hands, legs or feet, traction can relieve pressure on pinched nerves and help train the extremity back into its natural position.
To make the exercises, traction and work hardening easier and more effective, we also have several ways of accelerating tissue healing from the inside so that muscles, tendons and ligaments hurt less and respond better to the exercises. Depending on the patient's condition, we may use ultrasound, Interferential electrical muscle stimulation and Microamperage neural stimulation to deliver either low-frequency sound or low-current electrical impulses deep into injured tissues. These methods increase circulation and stimulate endorphin production to naturally relieve pain and reduce swelling. Delivering waves of therapeutic heat deeply into sprained or strained tissues accelerates internal healing processes at the cellular level.
We also use Diathermy, Paraffin baths and moist heat to warm and loosen muscles, helping to relieve pain and tension while preparing them for therapeutic exercise regimens.
Sometimes injured tissues need cold as opposed to heat, however. In these cases, we employ Cryotherapy, in which the application of cold to injured tissues slows cellular metabolism and decreases inflammation. This helps stop injury damage from progressing, particularly in traumatized tissues right after an injury.
